Swashbuckling weekend in Mystic
The annual Mystic Pirate Invasion takes place Friday through Sunday, beginning with a screening of “Hook” at 6:30 p.m. Friday at Mystic River Park. On Saturday, there will be pirate-themed food and drink specials at participating restaurants and pirates roaming the streets.
Sunday at 1 p.m., the schooner Argia will bring an invasion of pirates. There will be a sea battle with local militia as the pirates fight their way to shore. Also on Sunday, dancers will perform in Mystic River Park.
Activities for youngsters and adults will take place throughout the weekend at Bank Square Books, Mystic & Noank Library and Mystic River Park.

October 2nd, 2016, New England Air Museum in Windsor Locks, CT will host a gathering of iconic Ford Mustangs in celebration of the completion of the restoration if its WWII era P-51 Mustang fighter aircraft. Ford Mustangs from the 1960s to the latest GT’s will be on public display along with more than 100 aircraft helping to keep our aviation history alive. Access to the show and a behind the scenes peek into NEAM’s aircraft restoration and storage hangars is included with regular museum admission. WEST HARTFORD – The new school year is beginning, and so are acting classes at Playhouse on Park this fall. The theatre is offering a year-long Actor Performance Training Program for students in grades 5-8. This program will be held on Tuesday, from 5:30-7pm. Each student will present an informal improvisation showcase in December, and will be featured as an actor in a final performance in May.

This program will focus on developing a student’s acting technique in a comfortable and professional setting. The first part of the year will focus on in-depth improvisation work, while the second part will focus on audition techniques. This program will conclude with a devised performance piece where students will continue their acting training by creating, rehearsing, and performing an original script.

Registration is required and now open! Class size is limited and will be filled on a first-come, first-served basis. This class is for 5th graders who have already taken a Playhouse on Park acting class and have permission from the instructor, in addition to all 6th-8th grade students. The New England Air Museum will host its fall 2016 Open Cockpit Day on Saturday, October 8th, from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. (museum is open until 5:00 p.m.) Special activities include the chance to climb aboard historic aircraft including a WWII P-47 Thunderbolt, a jet-age F-100 Super Sabre and an F-104 Star-fighter as well as number of helicopters.
