Children watch as Purple Red, one of the two newest African penguin chicks at the Mystic Aquarium, takes its first swim in the Roger Tory Peterson Penguin Pavilion Thursday, May 9, 2013. The two chicks, Purple Gray being the second, were hatched at the aquarium February 1st and 10th respectively. Once the aquarium's adult penguins were removed from the exhibit the two chicks were introduced by penguin trainers Tracy Camp and Josh Davis. Neither chick entered the water on their own, but had to be placed there by a trainer. According to an aquarium press release, the chicks float very well but must learn how to dive and navigate using their wings and feet.
