Carol W. Kimball, born in Quaker Hill, was a retired elementary school teacher. She was forced to bone up on local history to teach her third grade social studies class about the history of Groton. This study soon became a hobby. She lived in Mystic and is the author of several books about local history. She was appointed Groton Municipal Historian in 1985 when "The Poquonnock Bridge Story" was published. That year she also began to write a column for The Day.
