The Brooklyn Cyclones topped the Connecticut Tigers 7-1 in the first game of a New York-Penn League doubleheader at Dodd Stadium Wednesday night, as playoff hopes continued to dwindle for the Tigers (32-35).
Coast Guard Academy made a winner of Mike Bynon in his coaching debut as the Bears rolled to a 25-16, 25-10, 25-10 volleyball victory over Mitchell College on Tuesday night in the season opener for both schools.
Shortstop Danienger Perez, making his New York-Penn League debut, went 3-for-4 with a double, triple and three RBI as the Staten Island Yankees routed the Connecticut Tigers 10-2 on Sunday afternoon at Dodd Stadium.
Tied 1-1, the Lowell Spinners scored three times in the top of the inning to lead 4-1. The Connecticut Tigers, however, scored two in the bottom of the 10th to pull within 4-3 before hitting into a game-ending double play.
Mike Clancy, in his first game as Coast Guard's starting running back, carried the ball 14 times for 106 yards and two touchdowns — 96 yards in the second half — as the Bears topped Anna Maria 34-6 Thursday on opening night.
And so Coast Guard begins the season Thursday with a 7 p.m. game against Anna Maria at Cadet Memorial Field, the Bears' first night game since 1996. Derek Victory, a junior, will be the starting quarterback, the way he has been for the last 17 games.
