Groton Police Make Arrest In Strangling Death

Groton � Town police made an arrest Monday in connection with the April 13 strangulation death of a New London man who was found in car behind a house on Industrial Drive.

Police said Dirren Conyers 31, of 33 North Road turned himself in early Monday afternoon. He is accused of killing 36-year-old Jose A. Cartagena and was charged Monday with first-degree manslaughter and unlawful restraint.

Conyers posted $250,000 bond and was released two hours later. He is scheduled to appear May 5 in New London Superior Court.
