A jury has awarded nearly $322,000 to a New London woman who was injured when her car was struck from behind by another vehicle on Montauk Avenue in 2005.

The verdict followed a four-day trial before Judge A. Susan Peck in New London Superior Court.

Anbar Crespo, 22, and her husband Sam Crespo had sued the driver, Marianne Wood of Amherst, Mass., along with the owner of the car, according to John A. Collins III of the Suisman Shapiro law firm. Collins and his colleague Michael V. Sage represented the Crespos.

”Anbar suffered significant injuries in this accident, and she and Sam are deeply appreciative to the jury for its attention to detail and diligence in arriving at fair and appropriate awards,” Collins said.

The jury awarded $321,910.52 to Mrs. Crespo and an additional $2,943 to her husband. Local orthopedic surgeon Jeffrey A. Miller and Dr. Robert Burnett, a chiropractor, had testified for the plaintiffs. Middletown attorneys Ted Heiser and John Locus represented Wood, who admitted liability for the crash after the trial began, Collins said.
