Norwich - A company owned by local developer Janny Lam officially became the owner of the former Norwich Heritage Discovery Center Wednesday, completing a foreclosure that was approved by New London Superior Court in May.
Lam plans to bring retail businesses to the storefronts on the Main and Water street sides of the building and develop apartments in the upper stories.
The building also houses the Norwich Community Development Corp. office. NCDC Executive Director Robert Mills said the agency now is on a month-to-month rental basis, but may enter into a one-year lease. The agency will pay the same $18,000 per year in rent, but now will pay city property taxes for the amount of space rented, Mills said. NCDC already pays its own utilities.
Lam already has added one new business to the complex, a hair salon that plans to open in a Water Street storefront.
