New London - Connecticut College has been awarded almost $40,000 in grants from the Frank Loomis Palmer Fund to support community mentorship and children's programming.

The Connecticut College Children's Program was awarded $25,000 for transportation needs. The program provides a model child and family-focused early childhood education within a community context for infants and young children.

The college's Office of Volunteers for Community Service (OVCS) has received $14,500 to support various community mentorship programs, including Students Implementing Services through Education and Reaction (SISTER), Mentoring Youth by Reaching Out through Education and Recreation (My BROTHER) and Advocating Brighter Choices (ABC). The programs foster positive youth development, build relations and improve academic levels.
