Welcome to the new theday.com.

The site you see today has been months in the making and we hope you enjoy the new look and simplified navigation. One of the biggest additions is our collection of town pages. We've set up pages for 38 towns on the coastline, from Westerly to North Haven, and this is where you'll find all of the local news happening in your town. Content on these pages is culled from The Day, The Times weeklies, Shore Publishing and from our readers. Yep, you can add your local news, photos and calendar events right there on the town pages. You'll find these new pages in the blue "Town News/Zip06" box on the right-hand side of the home page.

Some of the additional features you'll find on the new site are TV grids, local movie times and editorial cartoons. We're also launching dynamic new live-chatting software, through which in the coming weeks you'll be able to ask questions and speak with local community figures.

There's a brand new mobile site, making theday.com more accessible from just about anywhere. And when you register for the new theday.com, you'll have the opportunity to sign up for mobile and e-mail alerts on topics like breaking news and severe weather.

A few notes on some of the changes:

  • Obituaries can be found in the top navigation on the right-hand side or by going directly to www.theday.com/obituaries.
  • Registration is now required to comment on articles. If you were previously registered on theday.com, you will need to sign up again, as this is a new system.
  • Speaking of comments, our commenting system has changed. Comments will no longer be approved before being posted, and you, the users, will help moderate the discussion by flagging comments that violate our Terms of Use. For more on this change, see publisher Gary Farrugia's column at http://www.theday.com/article/20091018/OP01/310189944 and read our Terms of Use at http://www.theday.com/termsofuse.
  • Navigation has moved to the top of the page, where you'll find links to all of our news sections and classifieds, and the bottom of the page, where you'll find links on how to contact us, manage your subscription and more.

By no means is this site a finished masterpiece. We think of it as an evolving work and you'll see even more new features, interactivity and changes in the coming months. To make this happen, we need to hear from you. Tell us what you like, don't like and suggest improvements for the future. Use the commenting area below to share your thoughts, or join the Web team in a live chat on Oct. 20 and 21. You can also e-mail your comments to ReaderRep@theday.com.

We know change can be difficult, but we hope you enjoy browsing the new site and would love to hear from you soon.

Sincerely,
Jennifer Sammons
