Third-grade students at Oswegatchie School in Waterford watch a wood-carving demonstration by Mexican artist Ventura Fabian on Monday. Fabian and his son Norberto are visiting Waterford schools this week as part of the Margaritas Mexican Restaurant chain's Education Outreach Program. Students watched the two men create figures carved from basswood. Ventura told the students through a translator that he has been carving for 54 years, since he was 17 years old. The students also watched a documentary about the Fabian family and got to ask questions. The pair will be carving and answering questions from the public Wednesday at the Margaritas in Mystic from 4 to 9 p.m.
