Occasionally, Halloween falls on a weekend - as with this Saturday. This means you can stay out later and live it up in heartier fashion.
And for post-trick-or-treating (or even Friday), there's no reason not to avail your costumed self of the many musical opportunities presenting themselves.
Herewith are some fine sonic options with holiday overtones:
Friday
l The Hoolios provide sterling roots rock, 9 p.m., Sneekers, 568 Poquonnock Road, Groton; free; 445-1967.
l Sasquatch & the Sick-a-Billys play demonic, steamroller rockabilly with Soul Reapin' 3 and the Bloodshot Hooligans, 9 p.m., Backstage Bar, 557 Route 12, Groton; $8; 445-4141.
Saturday
l Rock 'n' Roll Creepshow with Get Haunted, Total Bolsheviks and Dorian James & the Brood, 7 p.m., Hygienic Art Park, 79-83 Bank St., New London; $7 suggested donation; 443-8001.
l The Oasis Pub hosts a truly original Halloween music fest with local acts performing as other bands. Fatal Film does the Misfits; the Hempsteadys show up as the Clash, and Brava Spectre play as Fatal Film, 9 p.m., Oasis Pub, 16 Bank St., New London; $5; 447-3929.
l Sewage-strength punkers D.O.T.- we mean that in a good way- share a bill with Niantic basement-metallists Flesh Hammer, 9 p.m., Bank Street Café, 637 Bank St., New London; $5; 444-1444.
l Halloween Bash with 10 bands including Carnival of Souls and Shaved Yak, 2 p.m., Legends Rock Bar, 1598 Route 12, Gales Ferry; $10, $8 in advance; 415-0795.
l Heavy Metal Halloween with Amido Black, Destined to Burn and more, 6 p.m., El 'n' Gee Club, 86 Golden St., New London; $5 ($10 under 21); 439-1033.

With the Valentine's Day holiday approaching, we wanted to see if any of our readers ever received a Valentine's gift that was memorably bad.
