Ledyard – State police are looking for a man who they say assaulted a Mashantucket tribal police officer Wednesday evening.
Police said that tribal police contacted them at 6:45 p.m., reporting that they lost contact with an officer who was looking for assistance. The tribal officer was approaching a man who was hanging out on tribal burial grounds on Fanning Road, police said.
When state and local police arrived, they found that the officer had been assaulted.
The attacker is described as an Asian or Hispanic male, between 5 feet, 6 inches tall to 5 feet, 8 inches tall, wearing a hooded sweatshirt and blue jeans.
The identity of the officer is being withheld pending the ongoing investigation, police said.
