Edward C. Radics Salem
Publication: The Day
This letter is to ponder why the state of Connecticut had been procrastinating, or perhaps even giving us a nontruth, about finishing Route 11 from Colchester to Route 85 near Interstate 395 in Waterford.
I have lived in this town for 44 years and have been to the votes, town meetings and even signed petitions. There are fatalities each year on Route 85 and I hear rumors of them putting in a four-lane highway from Salem Four Corners to Waterford, the same as Route 32. This is unacceptable because most of the deaths are after Salem Country Gardens, toward New London.
I have heard there will be a rotary put in at Salem Four Corners. Bad idea. This will have very little effect for traffic deaths.
The people of Salem pay outrageous taxes as it is, the roads are still terrible and there is no public garbage pickup. I will be getting another petition started to go directly to the governor to ask for any pressure or aid to help to make this happen.
The Day hosted a web chat with New London Mayor Daryl J. Finizio to discuss the beginning of his new administration and news out of the city's police department.
