New London -- One person was injured Saturday night when the deck of a Bank Street bar partially collapsed just before midnight, according to the New London fire department.
"It's pretty lucky only one person got hurt because there were a lot of people downtown last night," said Lt. Tod Chilleri, the acting battalion chief.
Chilleri said he was unsure how many people were on the deck at Exchange Bar & Grill last night and said the building department has been called to inspect the structure. The sole victim, a female who officials did not identify, was taken to Lawrence & Memorial Hospital with what were described as minor injuries.
"Obviously it came down for a reason, but to tell you how many people were there, I couldn't say," Chilleri said. "But it was Halloween and obviously a lot of people were out."
Telephone calls to the Exchange went unanswered this morning.
With the Valentine's Day holiday approaching, we wanted to see if any of our readers ever received a Valentine's gift that was memorably bad.
