A Florida man was who is already serving 22 years in prison for committing two armed robberies was extradited and arraigned Thursday in the lower level of New London Superior Court for allegedly committing three armed bank robberies in 2007.
Jeremy A. Doe, 24, of Jasper, Fla. is facing a multitude of charges in connection with two armed robberies of the Bank of America in Waterford and an armed robbery of the People's United Bank in Norwich.
Doe allegedly stole nearly $116,000 in total in the three robberies.
Doe is who 6 feet, 1 inch tall, stood silent during the brief court appearance. His dreadlocks were disheveled and he had teardrop tattoos on both sides of his face.
A bail commissioner recommended that he be held on a $500,000 bond while Alexandra Deeb, the prosecution's certified legal intern, recommended a $750,000 bond.
"The state has a strong case," said Deeb. "We have him on surveillance video."
Judge Kevin P. McMahon said the issue of bond was purely academic since Doe cannot be freed as a sentenced prisoner in another state.
McMahon set the bond at $49,000 cash only.
The case was transferred to the upper level Superior Court on Huntington Street, where more serious criminal cases are heard.
The Day hosted a web chat with New London Mayor Daryl J. Finizio to discuss the beginning of his new administration and news out of the city's police department.
