Portland - Colin Basler scored about 10 seconds before the end of the first half.
That was the first piece of the puzzle for the Old Lyme High School boys' and girls' soccer programs Friday.
The teams went on to sweep the Shoreline Conference championships in a doubleheader at Portland High School, with the second-seeded boys holding on behind Basler's goal to beat No. 4 North Branford 1-0 and the top-seeded girls blanking No. 3 Morgan of Clinton 2-0.
Both Old Lyme teams played in the finals a year ago and lost.
"It was much more satisfying for both of us," boys' coach Marc Vendetti said. "It was a historic evening. (Girls' coach Don Desautels and I) are both pretty ecstatic for the kids and for the programs. It's a great, great night for Old Lyme. No question."
Cal Linderman added six saves for the boys (14-4) to preserve the shutout in the first game of the two, with the girls' team looking on.
Tanya Price and Brittany Cowee scored goals for the girls (17-0-1) and Cassie Algar made five saves in a victory which tied the program record for wins. It was the 20th goal of the season for Cowee.
"It was a tough one for us last year," said Desautels, whose team lost 1-0 to Cromwell in 2008. "Tonight we just looked well. We were very, very confident. We had a couple different sets. The defense was really good at times. We looked like we knew what we were doing out there."
