Wilbraham, Mass. - The St. Thomas More football team, despite three Terrell Williams touchdowns, lost to Wilbraham-Monson, 35-31, Sunday.

Williams ran for a pair of touchdowns and returned an interception 33 yards for a score. He carried the ball 19 times for 183 yards. Former St. Bernard standout Ryan Brahm ran for an 8-yard touchdown and hooked up with former New London High School standout Bryce Childs for a 21-yard touchdown pass.

The Chancellors (1-5) finish their season Saturday, hosting Williston-Northampton at 1:30 p.m.

H.S. girls' cross country

• Westerly missed qualifying for the New England championships by one spot, finishing sixth in the Rhode Island State Open at Ponaganset High in North Scituate.

Senior Bridget Murphy finished 19th in 20:33, earning third-team all-state honors and qualifying for Saturday's New England meet. Sophomore Rachel Orlando also made the New England meet, finishing 24th in 20:59.

Jane Mueller was 32nd, Ryann Murphy was 67th and Adeline Hanssen finished 80th for the Bulldogs. LaSalle Academy of Providence won the title and LaSalle's Molly Keating won the race with a time of 18:28.

Sailing

• Connecticut College placed eighth out of 20 teams at this weekend's Rhode Island State Championship Regatta at Newport, R.I.

The Camels, ranked 19th in the Sailing World Magazine poll, scored 130. Salve Regina won with 194 points.

Marina Gluckman, Mike Marshall, Alex Olt and Claire Sacco teamed to finish 12th in the A Division (130 points) for Conn, while Wells Bacon and Elizabeth Wilsterman sailed for the third-place B Division team (64).

Women's field hockey

• Loren Sherer had a goal and an assist and was named the tournament's Most Outstanding Player as second-seeded UConn beat top-seeded Syracuse, 2-1, to win the Big East championship. The victory gave UConn head coach Nancy Stevens her 500th win, the second coach in Division I field hockey history to reach that mark. Ali Blankmeyer scored for UConn (19-2), ranked seventh in the nation. Nicole Nelson scored for the fifth-ranked Orange (17-3).
