Three -- Brooks, Piper, Shackleford -- named to Bogan Division first team

New London - Coast Guard Academy placed three players on the New England Football Conference (NEFC) Bogan Division first team Friday and seven players total, six on offense, in voting by the eight head coaches.

Senior right tackle Justin Brooks, senior defensive lineman Doug Piper and sophomore kicker Jacob Shackleford all earned first-team honors while senior right guard Ryan Fox, senior wide receiver Sam England, junior quarterback Jesse Karr and freshman tight end Casey Paris were all named to the second team.

Coast Guard was 4-5 overall and finished fourth in the Bogan Division with a 4-3 record.

• Christian Mulcahy, the former St. Bernard standout, was a first-team pick on the NEFC Boyd Division team for Plymouth State. Mulcahy, a sophomore from Norwich, was selected as the return specialist.

H.S. girls' soccer

• Wheeler School of Rhode Island beat Williams School 3-0 in the SENE Tournament championship game. Caroline Fishman scored twice for Wheeler and Christina Muraco also scored.Marissa Peck made 18 saves for Williams (14-3).

UConn's Cullen Guy semifinalist

• UConn senior punter Desi Cullen was selected as one of 10 semifinalists for the Ray Guy Award, which honors the top collegiate punter. Cullen is averaging 43.8 yards per punt this season with a long of 61 yards. He has 18 punts inside the 20-yard line. He is currently second in the Big East in punting average and 16th in the country.

College volleyball honors

• Connecticut College junior Marissa DeMais and sophomore Amy Newman were named to the American Volleyball Coaches Association All-New England Region team.

DeMais finished third in the NESCAC in assists (10.1 per set) and has 2605 career assists. Newman finished second in NESCAC in kills (4.2 per set).
