The former food services manager for the East Lyme school system was arraigned today in the lower-level court of New London Superior Court for allegedly embezzling more than $300,000 from the company that manages the cafeterias for the schools.
Beverly Howard, 53, of Westerly, was charged with first-degree larceny. Her bond was set at $100,000.
Howard turned herself in to state police this morning after learning of the charges.
The school system contracts with the Compass Group,a food services management company, Howard is accused of embezzling $325,000 from the Compass Group over a two-year period.
The case was continued to Dec. 2 in the upper-level court, where more serious crimes are tried.
