Swine flu clinics open to more people

More H1N1 flu and seasonal flu vaccine supplies have come to southeastern Connecticut, giving residents more opportunities to be vaccinated.

The Ledge Light Health District announced today that it is accepting registration for upcoming H1N1 vaccination clinics from people ages 25 to 64 years old with high-risk medical conditions.

Other groups that can also register for the clinics are: anyone ages six months to 18 years old; pregnant women; those who live with are care for infants six months and younger; and health care or emergency services workers with direct contact with patients or infectious material.

Only people in these groups who are residents of East Lyme, Groton, Ledyard, New London, Waterford, Lyme, Old Lyme, North Stonington and Stonington are eligible.

Registration is being taken on Ledge Light’s Web site, www.ledgelighthd.org, or by calling (860) 442-4882, option 2. Ledge Light will contact registrants with a time and place of the clinic where they can receive a shot.

Seasonal flu shots will be available to anyone ages four and older at two clinics next week run by the Visiting Nurse Association of Southeastern Connecticut, the VNA announced today. It just received a shipment of 570 doses from the state Department of Public Health, VNA President Mary Lenzini said.

The first will be 3:30 to 6:30 p.m. Dec. 3 and the second will take place from 7:30 to 10:30 a.m. Dec. 8. Both will take place at the VNA offices, 403 N. Frontage Road, Waterford.
