Ledyard – A New London man was arrested for arson Tuesday for allegedly setting a car on fire last year and lying to police about it.

Vannak Sin, 29, of 186 Willets Ave., was charged with first-degree arson, criminal attempt at second-degree larceny, insurance fraud, falsely reporting an incident and two counts of second-degree providing a false statement to police. He turned himself in to police Tuesday after Ledyard detectives obtained an arrest warrant.

Last November a car fire was reported at the Lantern Hill Road boat launch. Sin allegedly set fire to the car, which was destroyed. Sin reported the car stolen that day, after the flaming car was discovered.

As part of this investigation, police also arrested Huong Son, 23, of 186 Willets Ave., New London, for proving a false statement to police and hindering prosecution. He was arrested earlier this month.

Sin was released on $100,000 bond.
