An interesting and entertaining Wednesday night in New York.
No. 13 UConn is expected to receive a stiff challenge from LSU and instead rolls to a convincing 81-55 win.
No. 7 Duke is expected to handle Arizona State and instead fights its way to a 64-53 win.
Now it's the Huskies and the Blue Devils squaring off in the NIT Season Tip-Off Championship game at 5 p.m. Friday at Madison Square Garden.
Perfect.
Did you know that UConn has won four straight in the series?
UConn is spending Thanksgiving in New York. The Huskies will practice today.
The Huskies have little time to enjoy their break-out performance against LSU.
Coach Jim Calhoun certainly enjoyed watching his team finally play nearly a complete game. You could tell because he remained fairly calm -- at least for him -- throughout the game.
"I couldn't be happier," Calhoun said.
Here's a brief rundown on Duke:
Three Duke players -- senior Jon Scheyer, junior Kyle Singler and junior Nolan Smith -- played all 40 minutes Wednesday. Scheyer had a team-best 16 points. The Blue Devils shot just 42 percent and went eight players deep.
The Blue Devils easily won their first four games, beating UNC-Greensboro (96-62), Coastal Carolina (74-49), Charlotte (101-59) and Radford (104-67).
Coach Mike Krzyewski says this is the biggest team that he's ever had at Duke.
That's it for now. It's been a long night.
Enjoy your Thanksgiving feast.
