Henry and Verniece Royce enjoyed the celebration of their 70th anniversary at their home in Stowe, Vt. The gathering of 80 guests and family celebrated with a rock 'n' roll theme, dressed in '50s attire. The festivities were hosted by their children, Alice Pelletier of Groton, Rita Royce of Stowe, Vt., Lyle and Lynda Royce of Groton, Terry and Brenda Royce of Sebastian, Fla., Lindsey and Morgan Royce of Hawaii, Paul and Sonja Royce of Swanton, Vt.; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Their two children, Wayne and Patricia, had predeceased them.
Henry served in the Army during World War II before working as a welder/instructor at Electric Boat in Groton for 30 years, welding on the Nautilus in the 1950s. During his first retirement, they opened Royce Trailer Sales on 184 in Groton. Verniece was active in Little League and Scouts and both were avid members of the New London Motorcycle Club.
They were married in Graniteville, Vt. on Oct. 1, 1939, and lived in Maine, New Hampshire, Vermont and Connecticut before retiring in Stowe, Vt., in 1982.
