The Day reports that Gov. M. Jodi "Let them eat cake" Rell is, to quote The Day, "slashing funding to programs for the poor and sick, local governments and state agencies." ("Rell plan would cut budget by $337M," Nov. 25.) I have a suggestion for slashing our budget. Perhaps if we cut Gov. Rell's paycheck in half, we could save some money. Or, the better part of the bargain would be to put her on the welfare roles - that is, kick her out of office.
All seriousness aside, has the good governor ever eaten in a soup kitchen, or slept in a shelter during the winter when it was cold enough outside to literally freeze to death? Here in New London we have had an example of this when a homeless man froze to death here in the greatest, wealthiest, most powerful and most generous country in the world.
It would be a great photo-op if the governor were to eat in a soup kitchen in the area. Why not? The most compassionate people who cook there offer some of the best and most nutritious food in town.
Once again this year, The Day is running its Peeps competition, in which we invite you to take Easter's favorite candy – Peeps – and turn them into art.
