New London - Jennifer Shinall's basket with 1.4 seconds remaining Tuesday gave the Connecticut College women's basketball team a 72-71 victory over Western Connecticut State University.
Jeanna Dunleavy added 13 points and six rebounds for Conn (2-2) and Kim Horne added 10 points, five rebounds and four assists. Kacie Quick added nine points.
In other games:
• Alix O'Neil and Destiney Harris each had twelve points for Mitchell College in a 67-64 loss to Albertus Magnus. Harris also had 12 rebounds. Allison Peck and Jennifer Iglesias each added nine points for the Mariners (0-3).
Men's basketball
• Junior De La Hoz scored 16 points, including a 3-pointer at the end of regulation, to lead Anna Maria to a 57-54 win over Coast Guard. Jevon James scored 19 points with 10 rebounds for the Bears (3-3) while Trip Fernandes added 17 points and Eric Hudson had 12 points and seven rebounds.
• Eric Murray had 16 points and seven rebounds for Mitchell College in an 87-62 loss to Albertus Magnus. Jenel Russell added eight points for the Mariners (0-4).
Women's hockey
• Sara Christopher made 38 saves for Connecticut College in a 3-0 loss to Holy Cross. Conn is 1-4.
College field hockey
• UConn senior forward Loren Sherer has been named as one of four finalists for the Honda Award, which recognizes the national player of the year. Sherer is the third UConn player to be named as a finalist in the last six years, joining Lauren Henderson (2005) and Lizzy Peijs.
Sherer broke UConn's single-season record for goals (33) and points (84) this season.
Coast Guard camp
• Coast Guard's Winter Baseball Camp will be held Dec. 28-30 at Roland Fieldhouse for ages 10-17. Ages 10-12: 9-11 a.m.; Ages 13-17: 11 a.m-1 p.m. Fees: $65 per camper, $120 for two brothers and $150 for three brothers. Registration closes Dec. 18.
