The man accused of fatally stabbing Kyle Sheets aboard a boat in Mystic last year pleaded guilty today in New London Superior Court to felony murder.
Christopher M. Allen, 24, will be sentenced early next year to 32 years in prison.
He is one of four young men charged in connection with the Sept. 26, 2008, killing of Sheets during a botched robbery aboard Sheets’ father’s boat, the Crucible, which was docked at the Seaport Marina. Sheets, 29, had worked for a marina and was a boating and fishing enthusiast along with his father.
According to police, 18-year-old Bryan Sutton and 15-year-old Bruce Grisafe served as lookouts while Allen and Vincent Green, 18, boarded the boat with the intention of robbing Sheets. The robbery went awry, and Allen stabbed Sheets with a serrated knife, police said.
The other men’s cases are pending, and the state will attempt to resolve them now that Allen has pleaded out.
Sutton is free on a $250,000 cash or surety bond and is scheduled to appear in court again on Dec. 21. Green is being held on a $99,000 cash bond and is due in court on Jan. 7. Grisafe is being held on a $250,000 bond and is scheduled to appear in court on Dec. 10.
