Plainfield — A Danielson man was transported by Lifestar this afternoon after he sustained serious injuries when his motorcycle collided with a backhoe.

Plainfield Police said at approximately 2 p.m. they responded with the Plainfield Fire Department to an accident involving a motorcycle and a backhoe at the intersection of Route 14A and Spaulding Road in Plainfield. Police said Michael Fournier, 49, of Franklin Street in Danielson, was driving his 2001 Harley Davidson motorcycle east on Route 14A when a 2000 John Deer 310E backhoe, driven by Timothy Mellon, 67, of Saratoga, Wyo., was making a left turn from Route 14A onto Spaulding Road. Police said the motorcycle then collided with the backhoe.

Fournier was transported by Lifestar to the hospital. His condition is unknown at this time.

Plainfield Police said the accident is under investigation.
