Political talk radio may be harmful to business

I recently stopped giving my business to a local shop because the shopkeeper plays Rush Limbaugh's radio show every day.

When I went in recently, the president was overseas doing the business of our country, and Rush Limbaugh was on the air, undercutting him and spewing anger and hatred. I voted with my feet and left.

Mr. Limbaugh and other right-wing broadcasters are using some of the most emotion-charged invective that has ever been aimed at an American president on the public airwaves. Rush Limbaugh has, unbelievably, compared President Obama to Adolf Hitler. Recently, when he and three other conservative extremists said the president was "raping" our country, Rush Limbaugh went further, saying, "He's making us bend over and grab our ankles," a description of sodomy.

This is dangerous talk that spits on the American values of tolerance and civility. Worst of all, hearing our president repeatedly portrayed as a criminal may very well give an extremist with a high-powered rifle the excuse to think the unthinkable.

I actually like this shop owner, but I can't support giving a public platform to a man who calls our president a rapist and compares him to Adolf Hitler.
