Are you concerned about your UConn Huskies after their latest inconsistent performance?
You should be.
Coach Jim Calhoun certainly is concerned. He calmly addressed his team's issues following Sunday's unimpressive win over Harvard.
On his bench: "We don't have a bench."
On his frontcourt depth: "We need more help."
On his team's failure to play a full 40-minute game: "We let a team hang around by making some awful plays."
On freshman center Alex Oriahki's play: "I should have put Charles (Okwandu) back in for Alex. Alex had his worst game in a Connecticut uniform. He couldn't catch the ball. He couldn't rebound the ball. And he couldn't play defense. Besides that, he was terrific."
On freshman Jamal Coombs-McDaniel's shooting woes (6-for-23 from the field, including 4-for-16 from 3-point land, this season: "He's our best 3-point shooter in practice. It would be hard to really convince you of that."
Calhoun also is concerned about his team's breakdowns late in the shot clock, mental lapses and half-court offense.
That about covers it, wouldn't you say?
A showdown is looming with No. 5 Kentucky Wednesday in New York. It could get ugly.
Undefeated Kentucky beat No. 10 North Carolina, 68-66, Saturday.
