Paul Choiniere's column about Bill Stanley and the publication of his latest book, "History Sites of Norwich: From the Beginning," is a well-deserved tribute to a man who has done so much for his community. ("History around the corner," Dec. 6.)
All of his books evoke a special harmony through the anecdotal, historic and photographic history of Norwich. His generosity over the years has been exceptional. Most recently he donated 5,000 copies of this book to Norwich public schools. He served his country, served in the Connecticut Senate, worked as a stockbroker, raised a family and researched and embraced the history of Norwich as no one else. He never wants for accolades and, more recently in a radio interview, his humility shined through his 80 years.
Citing health issues as why this may be his last book, Mr. Stanley has brought hours of reading over the years to both young and old. To him I say, "Keep writing!" Children now have a virtual history tour in their curriculum. What better way to hold their interest and teach a subject so effectively?
Best wishes to Mr. Stanley and his family for good health and much happiness.
Kudos to Mr. Stanley.
