Ledyard — Allison Stoddard and Michelle Lagrotteria scored 13 points apiece Friday night and the East Lyme High School girls' basketball team opened its season with a 44-27 win over Ledyard in the Eastern Connecticut Conference Large Division.
The Vikings (1-0, 1-0) held Ledyard to three points in the second quarter.
Amber Lizotte led the Colonels (0-1, 0-1) with 12 points.
In other games:
• Defending Class S state champion Old Lyme opened its season with a 75-17 win over Hyde of New Haven in the Shoreline Conference. Megan Devlin had 13 points to lead the Wildcats (1-0, 1-0) and Nikkie Strizzie had 10.
• Samantha Rentz scored 16 points to lead Griswold to a 50-35 win over Lyman Memorial in the ECC Small Division. Brooke Martel had nine points and Jenna Bromley added eight for Griswold (1-0, 1-0). Carli Antignani, Kelly Martin and Kelsey Labas each led the Bulldogs (0-1, 0-1) with seven points.
• Adily Martucci had 17 points and five steals as Waterford defeated Woodstock Academy, 51-33, in the ECC Large Division. Alexa Long had 12 points and 14 rebounds for the Lancers (1-0, 1-0) and Mattie Brett had six steals.
• Stephanie Jones scored 13 points and Montville defeated Killingly, 50-19. The Indians (1-0) held Killingly to five points in the first quarter.
Boys' basketball
• Matt Munoz scored 25 of his game-high 30 points in the second half as Rocky Hill (R.I.) outscored Williams 47-23 and beat the Blues, 82-55, in the SENE. Jake Goldberg had 19 points, seven rebounds and two assists for Williams (1-3, 1-2) while Sam Pieniadz finished with 14 points and eight rebounds. Rocky Hill is 2-0, 1-0.
Men's basketball
• Salve Regina earned its first win of the season with a 68-57 victory over Connecticut College. Demetrius Porter led the Camels (3-5) with 17 points and 11 rebounds.
• Andre Drummond had 23 points, six rebounds and five blocks as St. Thomas More defeated Northfield Mount Hermon, 95-89. Dominque Langston scored 15 points, Bryon Allen had 15 points and eight assists, Tre Bowman had 18 points and eight rebounds, Philip Izevbehai had 13 points,and Trahson Burrell had 11 rebounds. The Chancellors are 8-0.
College indoor track
• The Connecticut College men finished fourth and the women second at the Springfield College Invite on Thursday night. Host Springfield won both team titles.
For the Conn women, freshman Tess Peckler set a school record in the high jump (5 feet, one-half inch) in her first collegiate meet and Ali Holland won the 55-meter hurdles (9.43 seconds). Both qualified for the New England Division III championships.
The Camels also won two relays with Hayley O'Neil, Merry Byrne, Emily Wilde and Haley Goodwill taking the 4x400 relay (4:25.45) and Kelsey Taylor, Ally Bonito, Ellen Cavanaugh and Kerry Dermody winning the 4x800 (10:15.56). Dermody added a second in the 1,000 (3:11.47) and Taylor was third (3:12.85), both qualifying for the New England meet.
For the Conn men, defending NCAA triple jump champion Alex Samma won his speciality in 46-¼, reaching the provisional standard for the NCAA championships.
Also, Shawn Mulcahy of Lyman Memorial won the 3,000 (8:50.09) and qualified for the New England meet.
With the Valentine's Day holiday approaching, we wanted to see if any of our readers ever received a Valentine's gift that was memorably bad.
