Westerly — A 65-year-old Westerly man died Sunday evening after being struck by a car earlier in the day on High Street.
Late this afternoon police identified the victim as David Lauria of High Street.
Police said that at approximately 4:40 p.m. Sunday they responded to a report of a pedestrian struck by a motor vehicle near the intersection of Narragansett Avenue. Westerly Ambulance transported Lauria to Westerly Hospital where he was pronounced dead later in the evening.
Police said that Lauria was struck by a Nissan pickup truck driven by 80-year-old George Hill of Ashaway that was traveling south on High Street.
The cause of the accident remains under investigation by Cpl. James Campbell, an accident reconstruction specialist for the police department.
