    Seven arrested after practical joke at fire house goes wrong

    Waterford — Seven people were arrested Tuesday for their alleged role in an assault that occurred at the Quaker Hill Fire Department earlier this year.A member of the department was allegedly duct-taped to a board and shot with an air gun, similar to a BB gun, police said.

    Police said the incident was a practical joke gone awry. The alleged assault occurred Sept. 27 at the fire house and police began their investigation two days later, according to a news release.

    Court documents were not expected to be available until Thursday.

    Soon after the incident, Chief Matthew Carson said several junior and senior fire department members were suspended. Carson could not be reached for comment.

    A 17-year-old was charged with second-degree assault, second-degree reckless endangerment and risk of injury to a minor. The teen was released on $30,000 bond and was due in court Wednesday.

    The following were charged with conspiracy to commit second-degree unlawful restraint and risk of injury to a minor and were released on $500 bond and given court dates of Dec. 28: Kyle Mordick, 21, of 29 Richards Grove Road, Quaker Hill; Alexandra Tosi, 22, of 24 Stocking Lot Road, East Haddam; William H. Betters IV, 28, of Uncasville and Daniel E. O’Connor, 54, of 158 Old Colchester Road, Quaker Hill.

    Two juveniles were referred to juvenile court for their role in the assault, police said.
