Man accused in murder has trouble finding lawyer

New London - For the sixth time in a row, a Lisbon man facing murder charges appeared in New London Superior Court on Wednesday without a lawyer.

In August, Kevin Bialowas, 45, was charged with murder in connection to what police say was an alleged hit-and-run incident. Police allege that on July 14, Bialowas ran over 33-year-old Steven A. Germano of Windham with his pickup truck. He is being held in state custody on $1 million bond.

"This is the sixth time you've been back," said Judge Susan B. Handy. "These are murder charges, and I am very concerned."

Bialowas also faces charges of evading responsibility and driving with a suspended license. Connecticut law gives defendants the right to a probable cause hearing within 60 days of an arrest, but in court this morning Bialowas said he was waiving that right until he had retained an attorney.

Handy continued the case until Jan. 26, when Bialowas said he would be represented by New London lawyer Thomas Teixeira.
