UConn announced today that Texas Southern will replace Northeastern on its 2010 football schedule.
Texas Southern, located in Houston, is a member of the Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) and is a FCS (formerly Division I-AA) school. The Tigers were 6-5 in 2009, including a 42-0 loss to Rutgers.
The game, UConn's home opener, will be played on Sept. 11 at Rentschler Field.
UConn was forced to look for a new opponent after Northeastern announced it was eliminating its football program last month.
The Huskies, who are preparing to play South Carolina in the Papajohns.com Bowl on Jan. 2 in Birmingham, Ala., open their 2010 season on Sept. 4 at Michigan.
