I was so disappointed to read "Shore Line East expansion to NL pushed back once again by state," published Dec. 17.
After thousands of southeastern Connecticut residents have petitioned Hartford for affordable, reliable commuter rail service, Gov. M. Jodi Rell and the Department of Transportation are still giving the Connecticut Marine Trades Association the power to delay the service. Southeastern Connecticut needs this economic boost now more than ever, and Connecticut Marine Trades Association should not have veto power.
Connecticut ranks 49th of 50 states for its rate of "brain drain," the rate at which young work-force eligible folks move out of the state. I am one of those folks and I am moving to a place with affordable public transportation options and a government that listens to its residents' calls for more environmentally and user-friendly ways to get around.
I hope that Gov. Rell and the DOT will act soon to slow the rapid "brain drain" so that southeastern Connecticut can have the same economic opportunities afforded other shoreline towns.
