I do not know if the writer of the guest commentary titled "Let's wait until spring to act on all but worst of Stonington trees," published Dec. 14, is a native of this area, and I would agree with him about the trees, but not about the sidewalks in Pawcatuck.

We are an early village, 1649-50, and people were walking these sidewalks long before the forest became a "scenic road" or village.

In the past, $100,000 was taken from Pawcatuck for the dock in Stonington borough; $1 million was removed from our grant money for Mystic; about two years ago $200,000 or more was given to the fishing association for lighting on the dock in the borough; and every village in town pays taxes from which Stonington borough receives funds for its "private" government.

Now that people are aware of some of the facts, please recognize that Pawcatuck is a historic village, and is part of the Old Pequot Trail.
