CONCORD, Mass. (AP) — A seventh-grade teacher from New Hampshire has been arrested after allegedly robbing banks in Massachusetts and Connecticut and heading for a casino after one of the thefts.
Gail Rasmussen of Brookline, N.H., was released on $500 bail Wednesday after being arraigned in connection with a Dec. 20 robbery in Concord.
Officials said she'll also likely face charges in a Dec. 16 robbery in Tyngsborough and a Dec. 19 robbery in Plainfield, Conn. Police say 20 minutes after the Plainfield robbery, the 49-year-old Rasmussen was spotted at the nearby Mohegan Sun Casino.
Police say in each robbery, Rasmussen obscured her face with a scarf and demanded money by note.
Superintendent Susan Hodgdon of the Hollis-Brookline school district, where Rasmussen worked, said the allegations about Rasmussen were shocking and called the situation "sad."
The Day hosted a web chat with New London Mayor Daryl J. Finizio to discuss the beginning of his new administration and news out of the city's police department.
