This letter is in response to the letter titled "Insulting cartoon bad for children," published Jan. 25.
"Pearls Before Swine" isn't anymore uneducational than most comics. For example, "Dilbert" portrays office workers as lazy and sarcastic. "Beetle Bailey" teaches children that our military is full of buffoonish goof-offs. Even a classic strip like "Peanuts" has Lucy pulling the football away from Charlie Brown as he attempts to kick it. Obviously, these comic strips are not tutorials for acceptable moral behavior.
Human beings are destroying the planet and poverty is commonplace worldwide. However, the letter writer is concerned about the impact of "Larry's" grammatical issues. I guess the only solution is to flip to "Family Circus" so that civilization can be saved.
Or we could just lighten up a bit.
The Day hosted a web chat with New London Mayor Daryl J. Finizio to discuss the beginning of his new administration and news out of the city's police department.
With the Valentine's Day holiday approaching, we wanted to see if any of our readers ever received a Valentine's gift that was memorably bad.
In the past two weeks our Facebook fans have won tickets to the CT Tigers, Newport Winefest and Mystic Seaport. Become a fan of The Day on Facebook for access to these contests, breaking news, TheDay.com's best features and more!
