Conn men win first NESCAC game on Harrigan's 3-pointer at buzzer

New London - Rob Harrigan made a game-winning 3-pointer at the buzzer to give the Connecticut College men's basketball team its 83-81 win over Tufts University Saturday in the New England Small College Athletic Conference.

Harrigan made all six of his 3-pointers and had 24 points for Conn (8-12, 1-5). Also, Demetrius Porter had 23 points and four assists for Conn and Shavar Bernier had 20 points.

Jon Pierce had a game-high 35 points for the Jumbos (5-14, 1-5).

In other games:

• Eric Hudson had 15 points and five rebounds for Coast Guard Academy in a 62-55 win over Babson College in New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference play. Jevon James had 11 points for Coast Guard (7-10, 4-3) and Adam Radtke added nine points.

• Mike DiPaolo had 17 points for Mitchell College in a 72-46 loss to Lesley in New England Collegiate Conference play. Drew Norris added eight points for Mitchell (2-14, 1-7).

• Ledyard's Mike Jensen had 30 points for UConn-Avery Point in a 93-82 loss to Bristol Community College. Nolan Loricco added 21 points for Avery (2-19) and Tim Sartor scored 20,

Women's basketball

• Melissa Martinelli had 17 points and seven rebounds for Coast Guard in its 51-42 loss to Wheaton College in the NEWMAC. Karli Collins and Sabrina Taylor each had eight points for Coast Guard (4-12, 3-9).

• Emily Cummings had 11 points for Conn College in its 64-39 loss to Tufts in a NESCAC game. Kim Horne had eight points and four rebounds for Conn (8-12, 0-6).

• Destiney Harris had 15 points and 10 rebounds for Mitchell College in its 66-50 win over Wheelock in the NECC. Kaylee Cerruto added 12 points for Mitchell (6-8, 6-2) and Jennifer Iglesias scored 13 points.

Swimming

• Kim Shadwick won three events for Coast Guard's women's team in a 165-135 win over Clark. Shadwick won the 100 backstroke, the 500 freesytyle and set a pool record (10:37.80) to win the 1,000 freestyle. Heidi Gayman won the 50, 100 and 500 freestyle for Coast Guard (6-4).

Johnson Knox set a pool record in the 50 freestyle (21.21) as the Coast Guard men defeated Clark, 182-115. Both the 400 medley relay team of Timmy Berry, Mike Carman, Dan Alley and Knox (3:32.98) and the 200 medley relay team of Dan Beshoar, Brian McGuiness, Knox and Alley (1:26.68) set pool records for Coast Guard (9-1).

• Conn College's men's and women's teams swam against UConn. Conn's men lost 169-113. Pat Troy won the 100 butterfly and the team of Tim Walsh, Sam Perley, Troy and Grant Moryan won te 200 medley relay and the team of Troy, Walsh, Brian Finnerty and Moryan won the 200 free relay.

The Conn women lost 158-114 and Erika Fernandez won the 50 free.

Indoor track

• The Coast Guard men won their own invitational with 220 points. Devin Adams won the weight throw for the Bears while John Jaskot won the high jump and Josh Wofford won the 400.

All three quailfied for the New England Division III Championships.

Coast Guard's women finsished fourth with 60 points. Westfield State won the event with 156 points. Sarah Blatt won the mile for the Bears Alaina Kisdaddon won the 800.

Men's hockey

• Tyler Atkins scored three goals for Castleton State in a 5-0 win over Conn College. Greg Parker made 28 saves for Conn (4-13-1).
