Drummond leads four players in double figures with 14 points

Kingston, R.I. — Andre Drummond scored 14 points to help lead St. Thomas More to a 94-62 win over Massanutten Military Academy of Virginia on Sunday at the National Prep Invitational men's basketball tournament at the University of Rhode Island.

Tre Bowman had 13 points and Bryon Allen and Matt Conway each scored 12 for St. Thomas More (21-5).

H.S. Wrestling

Josh Ross of East Lyme was selected as the oustanding wrestler Saturday as the Vikings finished fourth at the Brawl at the Pub in Hartford. Ross (135) pounds and teammate Ross Spencer (112) each won their classes, with Ross winning all three of his matches by pin. Kareem Small (103) and Jacob Kalleher (140) had second-place finishes for East Lyme.

College men's basketball

Avery Point dropped an 88-81 decision to Dean Saturday. Mike Jensen scored 34 and Tim Sartor had 26 points for the Pointers.

College men's swimming

Timmy Berry won the won the 200 backstroke and the 200 butterfly Saturday as Coast Guard defeated Wesleyan 169.5-122.5. Alex Brown won the 100 free, Bryan Andrews won the 100 backstroke and Dan Alley won the 100 butterfly for Coast Guard (10-1). Also, Kevin Smith won the 500 freestyle.

Pat Troy won the 50 and 100 butterfly Saturday as Connecticut College beat Bates, 190-103. Tim Walsh won the 50 and 100 backstroke, Sam Perley won the 50 and 100 breaststroke and Grant Moryan won the 50 freestyle for Conn. Also, Harry Beauregard won the 200 individual medley, Harry Squires won the 500 freestyle and Kris Fleming won the 1,000 freestyle.

College women's swimming

Sam Sworden won the 500 freestyle and the 200 individual medley Saturday for Coast Guard, which lost to Wesleyan, 169-126. Kim Shadwick won the 200 backstroke for Coast Guard (6-5).

Sarah Murphy won the 100 and 200 freestyle and 200 individual medley for Conn College Saturday as it beat both Wellesley (193-74) and Bates (181-106). Kristen Zarba won the 100 fly and 500 freestyle for Conn and Erika Fernandes won the 100 breaststroke and the 50 freestyle. Also, Jessica Schanzer won the 50 backstroke and Leigh Weymouth won the 50 butterfly.

College indoor track

Lisbon's Brenner Green won the 5,000 meters (17:20.97) and Alex Samma the triple jump (46-foot-11) for Conn College at the Tufts University Invitational this weekend.

Other place winners for Conn were Tristan Cole (second, 5,000), Andrew Duarte (second, 1,000), Kelsey Taylor, Ally Bonito, Molly Pistrang and Kerry Dermody (second, 4x800), Doug Wright, Tim Murtagh, Andrew Duarte and Cole (third, 4x800), Dermody (third, 1,000) and Merry Byrne (sixth, 600).

Coast Guard's men's and women's teams each finished third in Saturday's meet against MIT and Williams. Williams won the men's meet with 192.5 points while Coast Guard had 47 points. The top place winners for Coast Guard were Tieran Bonner (third, 55 meter dash and 200), John Jaskot (second, high jump) and Josh Wofford (third, 400).

For the women, Williams won with 208 points and Coast Guard had 15 points. Sarah Blatt finished fourth in the 1000 (3:10.99) for Coast Guard.

Tyler Edwardsen, a former Ledyard High standout that's currently a freshman at Eastern Connecticut State, won the 55-meter hurdles at the Springfield Invitational in a school-record time of 7.91. The time qualified him for the ECAC Division III meet and the New England Open.

UConn's Scott Johnson, the former Old Lyme High standout, finished second in the 1000-meters Saturday at the Giegengack Invitational in New Haven. Johnson had a time of 2:27.92.
