George Crouse, who has coached tennis at Stonington High School for 37 years, has been named New England High School Coach of the Year by the United States Tennis Association.
Crouse, who will be honored during a ceremony next month in Marlborough, Mass., has coached either the boys and girls tennis teams at Stonington since 1973.
He has amassed more than 600 wins, has been to eight state finals. His girls' team is 341-96 and has reached four consecutive Class S state championships.
Crouse also operates the Stonington-Eastern Connecticut Community Tennis Association, coaches USTA Jr. Team Tennis Teams and led his squad to USTA state and sectional championships and a berth in the USTA National JTT 18 & Under Intermediate Championships in their first season in 2008. He is also a member of the USTA Connecticut board of directors.
