It's not just couch potatoes and acrophobics who like to think of attending the Banff Mountain Film Festival World Tour as the next best thing to dangling off a sheer cliff or careening down a snow-flaked mountain.
Adventure junkies love the fest, too.
This weekend, the tour comes to southeastern Connecticut, with North Cove Outfitters once again hosting.
All told, it's two hours of film about everything from rock and alpine climbing to kayaking to tackling environmental issues and exploring remote landscapes and cultures.
The tour features a selection of films from the 300 or so that are entered each year at the annual festival at The Banff Centre in Alberta, Canada. This year, the tour stops in 285 communities and 30 countries.
The New London screening benefits the Connecticut College Women's Lacrosse Team. The Old Saybrook one benefits the Old Saybrook Land Trust.
Banff Mountain Film Festival World Tour, 7 p.m. Friday, Palmer Auditorium, Connecticut College, Mohegan Avenue, New London; 7 p.m. Saturday, Old Saybrook High School, 111 Boston Post Road, Old Saybrook; $15; (860) 388-6585, northcove.com.
With the Valentine's Day holiday approaching, we wanted to see if any of our readers ever received a Valentine's gift that was memorably bad.
