ESPN's resident bracketologist Joe Lunardi says UConn needs three more wins to secure an NCAA Tournament bid.
He likes the Huskies to make the 65-team field.
"I think at the end of the day they will just sneak in," Lunardi said today.
The Huskies, 17-12 overall, end the regular season with road games at Notre Dame tonight and at South Florida Saturday. They're coming off a home loss to Louisville Sunday.
"For them, that was a bad loss on Sunday because it puts a lot of pressure on these two road games where they haven't been very good," Lunardi said.
"I still think they need three wins however they get them. If they lose tonight that just means they have to go deeper in New York."
The Big East Tournament starts Tuesday in New York.
UConn's strength of schedule, which is rated second, is definitely a plus.
"Beating Texas at the time was really great," Lunardi said. "Now it's just really good. Winning at Villanova was gigantic and that got some buzz going. But they're pretty inconsistent."
The Big East could get as many as nine bids. So UConn could squeak in even finishing in the lower half of the standings.
"I don't think the hurdle is being the ninth league team," Lunardi said.
