William and Joyce Birtcher of Mystic are pleased to announce the engagement of their daughter, Kathleen Ann, to Craig Penz, son of Christopher and Patricia Penz of Rochester, N.Y.

Ms. Birtcher, a 2001 Ledyard High School alumna, graduated with honors in 2005 from Cornell University, where she majored in English literature. She is employed as an acquisitions editor for the academic press Jones & Bartlett Publishers.

Mr. Penz is a 2004 graduate from Cornell University, where he studied neurobiology. He is employed as a study manager for the pharmaceutical company Seaside Therapeutics.

The happy couple resides outside Boston, Mass.

Their wedding will take place on April 24, 2010, in Stonington.
