The Big East Tournament is about to get underway here at Madison Square Garden.
Should be another wild week.
UConn and St. John's play in the second game of today's afternoon doubleheader. Game time should be in the 2-2:30 range.
Expect coach Jim Calhoun to go with his regular starting lineup --sophomore Kemba Walker, senior Jerome Dyson, senior Stanley Robinson, freshman Ater Majok and either freshman Alex Oriakhi or junior Charles Okwandu at center.
Calhoun made his point by benching Dyson, Robinson and senior Gavin Edwards for the final 16 minutes Saturday at South Florida.
He needs his seniors to play well for the Huskies to make a run deep into the Big East Tournament.
"I don't know if that's important," Calhoun said of the starting five. "It's more important how we play the game whoever is on the floor. That will be determined by how they're playing."
If they don't play hard, they should be benched again.
One more thing: Ignore the rumor/report/make-believe story that Calhoun is planning to retire at the end of this season.
He may retire, or he may not. Even Calhoun doesn't know right now. He's said all along that he'll decide sometime after the season ends.
There will be more speculation and rumors in the upcoming weeks. The real news will come when Calhoun makes his announcement.
