Sophomore Caroline Doty, who didn’t sustain a concussion Monday night as originally feared, was medically cleared to play in Tuesday’s Big East tournament final after participating in UConn’s shootaround during the morning.
She was limited to 16 minutes in the Huskies’ 60-32 win over West Virginia, though.
UConn coach Geno Auriemma explained why:
"She didn’t look right. Shea (Ralph, assistant coach) noticed it. You ask Caroline a question and she usually snaps at you," Geno said. "Today you asked her how are you? ‘Alll riggggghhht.’ Get her out.
"We got bigger games than this coming up."
Caroline took an elbow to the back of the head in the closing minutes of Monday night’s semifinal win over Notre Dame and laid on the ground for several moments. Geno said by Monday night in the locker room she was feeling better, but was just scared when the incident first happened.
She started Tuesday and received a loud ovation at the XL Center when she was introduced and also when she went to the free throw line in the first half. She finished with one point, one assist and two rebounds.
"That’s Caroline," UConn’s Maya Moore said of her teammate’s toughness. "She brings a lot of different things. We don’t doubt she’s gonna be fiery and bring a lot of emotion to our team."
