Sprigs & Twigs Announces $1000 Scholarship

Ledyard / Gales Ferry, CT – March 9, 2010 – Sprigs & Twigs Inc. announced today that they are offering a $1000 scholarship to a graduating Ledyard High School student interested in the Horticulture field, e.g., Landscape Design, Landscape Architecture, Nursery Management, Greenhouse Management, Conservation, Plant Science, Botany, Environmental Studies, Arboriculture, or Sustainability.

“Over the years, we have had a strong relationship with students from Ledyard High School. We would like to offer our encouragement to a promising student to get involved in the horticultural field and help make a difference our industry and the environment”, said Linda K. Lillie, President of Sprigs & Twigs, Inc.

Interested students must complete a Sprigs & Twigs, Inc. Application for Scholarship, provide an official copy of their school transcript, provide two letters of recommendation and write a 500 word essay on one of the topics listed:

- A local environmental issue that concerns them,

- An improvement in practices, methods, or services offered by Sprigs & Twigs, Inc, based on their research,

- An interesting project that they have worked on during high school that is relevant to the scholarship,

- New environmental friendly techniques a landscape company, nursery, or arborist might use to make their job easier and better for the environment.

Sprigs & Twigs, Inc is owned and operated by Linda and Bill Lillie and has served Southeastern Connecticut since 1997. Linda has more than 30 years of landscape design experience and holds a Bachelor’s degree in Botany from Connecticut College. She is also a graduate of the University of Connecticut Master Gardener Program. Bill, a Certified Landscape Professional (CLP), has a Masters degree in Mechanical Engineering; his specialties include project management, rainwater management and landscape installation. Linda and Bill, along with two other Sprigs & Twigs employees are Accredited Organic Land Care Professionals by the Northeast Organic Farming Association (NOFA).
