According to the Alan Guttmacher Institute, abortion kills a baby every 23 seconds in America. In 2005, 1.21 million abortions took place in the United States.
Make no mistake, even if you don't consider a fetus and an embryo a baby (of course it is still a human being), most abortions occur after eight weeks of pregnancy. Some 42,350 of these occurred on women who were four and five months pregnant. Almost 14,000 occured on women who were past five months of pregnancy.
According to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, more than 64,000 abortions a year are performed on women who had three or more previous abortions. At anytime time during pregancy (even up to the ninth month), on-demand abortion is legal even here in Connecticut.
Demand a change through your representatives in both the local and federal governments. At least let them know that you do not want your tax dollars going to support abortion.
It seems to me that the unborn child is protected by the Declaration of Independence: "We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable rights, that among these are life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness."
