Lyme — A local man died late this afternoon after he suffered a heart attack and fell into a pond in his backyard.
Richard Seckla, of 22 Oak Street, was pulled from the pond by rescuers about 4 p.m. An ambulance brought him to Lawrence and Memorial Hospital in New London where he was pronounced dead at 5:10 p.m., according to hospital spokesman Kelly Anthony.
Neighbors said that the backyard pond was unusually high due to the rain and that Seckla may have been trying to free some trees that had been blown into the yard by today's storm.
With the Valentine's Day holiday approaching, we wanted to see if any of our readers ever received a Valentine's gift that was memorably bad.
